# WSIB clearance expiry tracker

Updated 2026-09-26.

List each trade's clearance with its valid from and valid to dates. The tracker counts the days left, flags anything within 14 days of expiry, and exports the list as a CSV file.

## Why expiry matters

A clearance is valid for up to 90 calendar days and is renewable, under WSIB policy 14-02-04. Without one, a principal may be liable for a contractor's unpaid premiums up to the value of the labour portion of the contract.

For construction work, policy 14-02-19 requires the principal and contractor to obtain a clearance before the work begins, keep one in effect the whole time the contractor works, and obtain a new one if it expires. Records are kept for at least three years from the date each clearance was obtained. ## Getting the dates

Look each clearance up on the WSIB clearances page, which offers a quick access lookup with no login. Enter the validity dates it shows.

## Where the list is kept

In this browser's local storage on this device. Nothing is sent to Roundhouse or stored on a server. Clearing your browser data deletes the list, so export a CSV for your records.

## Method

- **Days left** is the valid to date minus today, in calendar days. A clearance counts as valid through its valid to date.
- **Expired** once today is past the valid to date. **Renew now** at 14 days or fewer. **Not yet in effect** before the valid from date. **Current** otherwise.
- **Check dates** is added when the valid to date is more than 90 days after the valid from date, or before it, since WSIB issues a clearance for up to 90 calendar days.
- **CSV** in and out: one clearance per line as trade, valid from, valid to, with dates written YYYY-MM-DD. A header line is skipped. The export adds days left and status.

## Worked example

On October 1, 2026, with three clearances on the list:

| Trade | Valid from | Valid to | Days left | Status |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Cleaner | 2026-06-01 | 2026-08-29 | -33 | Expired |
| Painter | 2026-07-20 | 2026-10-10 | 9 | Renew now |
| Plumber | 2026-09-15 | 2026-12-13 | 73 | Current |

## Questions

### Is the 14 day flag a WSIB rule?

No. WSIB sets the validity at up to 90 calendar days. The 14 day flag is a margin so the new clearance is in hand before the old one runs out.

### Can my colleagues see my list?

No. The list lives in this browser on this device. Export the CSV to share it or to keep it with your records.

### What happens to the list if I clear my browser data?

It is deleted. Export a CSV after each change if you need the record.
