# Property maintenance across all of Halton Region

Updated 2026-10-02.

Roundhouse serves all of Halton Region. [Halton Region](https://www.halton.ca/for-residents/water-and-wastewater-services) owns the water and wastewater system in all four municipalities, runs the basement flooding subsidy and a rent supplement program for landlords. The heat rule is set town by town, and it differs in all four.

## Oakville

Oakville's 2023 property standards by-law sets rental heat from September 1 to June 15, the Town licenses lodging houses, and since May 2024 a house can hold up to three units where zoning allows. Heritage districts add a step to exterior work. [Property maintenance in Oakville](https://roundhousegroup.ca/areas/oakville/).

## Milton

Most Milton renters live in a house, a basement unit or a rented townhouse rather than a purpose built rental. Every additional unit is registered with the Town for its fire service, and heat runs from September 1 to June 15. [Property maintenance in Milton](https://roundhousegroup.ca/areas/milton/).

## Burlington

Burlington's heat season for rental buildings runs from September 15 to May 31, growth is centred on its GO station areas, and short term rentals are licensed since May 2025. [Property maintenance in Burlington](https://roundhousegroup.ca/areas/burlington/).

## Halton Hills

Halton Hills is Georgetown, Acton, Glen Williams and Norval ([Official Plan](https://www.haltonhills.ca/Work/Planning-Development/Planning-Policy/Official-Plan)). The Town frames additional units as part of its answer to about 30,000 new residents over the next 15 to 20 years, and keeps them in a public registry. Its [business licensing by-law](https://www.haltonhills.ca/Town-Hall/By-law/2005-0067) licenses hotels and bed and breakfasts but leaves residential units out, and it repealed the Town's old lodging house licences. Heat is a degree higher than in Milton and has no season in the text. Enforcement Services takes property standards requests at 905-873-2600 ext. 2330.

## Region programs for landlords

Halton's [rent supplement program](https://www.halton.ca/for-residents/housing-supports-and-services/services-and-information-for-landlords) covers eligible lost revenue on vacant supplement units, and landlords keep their normal screening. Halton Rent Connect lists vacancies free, and Halton Housing Help works through tenant disputes.

## Who does the work

Plumbing is done by licensed plumbers and drain work by licensed drain contractors. Gas work is done by TSSA registered contractors. We only use ECRA/ESA-Licensed Electrical Contractors. Pest control is done by licensed exterminators. A backup traced to the lateral goes with the drain camera clip to the Region's subsidy application. ## Questions

### Which municipalities are in Halton Region?

Four, Oakville, Milton, Burlington and Halton Hills. Roundhouse serves all four. Oakville, Milton and Burlington have their own pages, and Halton Hills is covered on this one.

### Is Halton Hills' heat rule different from Milton's?

Yes. Halton Hills sets 21 C with no dates in section 33.3 of By-law 2008-0137. Milton sets 20 C from September 1 to June 15.

### Who do I call for a watermain break anywhere in Halton?

Halton Region, at 311 or 905-825-6000. The Region owns water and wastewater in all four Halton municipalities.

### Does Halton Hills still license lodging houses?

No. Business Licensing By-law 2005-0067 repealed the Town's earlier lodging house by-laws, and its accommodation schedule covers hotels, motels, bed and breakfasts and trailer camps, expressly leaving out residential units.
